A Study for ‘28 Demands (1971)’ returns to the Attica Prison Uprising at the moment incarcerated individuals press prison and government officials for amnesty. The tightly compressed bodies and exposed red ground transform negotiation into confrontation, staging the distance between conccessions offered by the state and the protection the prisoners continued to demand. Amnesty became a decisive point in the negotiations: accepting reforms without it could still leave participants vulnerable to presecution for the uprising. The work hols on that unresolved demans, locating the stakes of Attica not only in changing prison conditions, but in what consequences follow when people collectively resist them.
